The Schulich Consulting Club will host its second annual Undergraduate Consulting Conference this year, bringing together 100 of the brightest prospective consulting candidates with professionals from top consulting firms. Delegates of this conference will be able to learn and gain insight from various industry professionals through the various activities throughout the day. Firms will be able to connect with high potential candidates and have access to booklets containing all delegates’ résumés prior to the day’s events.

Keynotes

Keynote speakers will provide students with insights into the consulting industry, including highlighting their experience in the field and providing advice on how to succeed in the industry.

Workshops

Workshops will provide students with opportunities to develop and practice specific skills vital to success in consulting, including case structuring, relationship building, and personal branding.

Panels will provide students with a diverse range of perspectives on key topics such as successfully breaking into and moving up in the consulting industry.

Networking Sessions

Networking sessions will be available through the day, with a networking lunch and dinner where students can have more personalized conversations with industry professionals.

As our first event of the school year, this event brings together students of all years with recent graduates in the consulting industry to learn what the consulting industry is all about. Featuring a panel of consultants from top consulting firms, students gain insight into consulting through prepared questions and can learn about anything on their minds through the audience question and answer period. A live question feed via social media will be featured as part of the event. Topics to be covered include what consulting really is, the ins and outs of consulting, tips on how to stand out during recruitment, and essential skills required to be a successful consultant. Students will also be able to connect with the consultants in a networking session following the panel.

INTRODUCTION TO NETWORKING

This workshop is designed for students who want to learn more about the art of networking. Hosted by students and recent graduates who have successfully gone through the recruitment process, this session will cover topics such as how to approach people, how to maintain relationships, and how to leverage connections. This session will also provide students with concrete advice on communicating with industry professionals and will wrap up with networking session for students to directly reinforce their newfound knowledge.

 

BREAKING INTO CONSULTING

In this detailed development program, students will have the chance to learn the ins and outs of consulting recruitment. Hosted by a student who has successfully gone through the consulting recruitment process, this program will detail the key elements of securing an interview and delivering strong behavioural and case interview performances. Students will have the opportunity to learn and practice skills such as critical thinking skills, case analysis skills, structured storytelling skills, and relationship building skills. Students will also learn to develop a professional finesse to help them in succeeding in breaking into consulting. Through this program, we aim to better prepare students for the recruitment process ahead and enable them to put their best foot forward.

 

INTRODUCTION TO INTERVIEW

Students will have the opportunity to spend a day undergoing behavioural and case interview preparation. Students will have the chance to do mock behavioural and case interviews with consultants, who will provide constructive criticism for the students moving forward. Students will be provided with scores and comments on areas to improve before heading into the recruitment process. By undergoing this rigorous preparation, students will be able to show their best in their consulting interviews.

 

CONSULTING INTERVIEW PREPERATION

In addition to information and networking sessions, we aim to provide high potential candidates with the opportunity to build strong relationships with consultants who can mentor them through the recruitment process and beyond. Through short one on one coffee chats, we hope to provide prescreened high potential candidates with a chance to build a strong relationship with a consultant from our partner firm.

 

TORONTO CONSULTING PRACTICUM

Hosted at our partner’s office, an information session will allow students to learn about the firm’s achievements, culture, and opportunities, and a networking session will allow students to connect with professionals who share their knowledge and insights. Firms will be able to meet and connect with high potential candidates who will be going through the recruitment process early on.
